Welcome to Mrs. Campbell's 7th Grade English Language Arts class!
Welcome to 7th grade English Language Arts! I have planned lots of fun things this year to help strengthen your comprehension, fluency, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and writing.
- Literature Assignments: Students will be introduced to a variety of literature and challenged to analyze authors, setting, plots, characters, etc. through writing and reader responses. Students will work in a variety of groupings (i.e., whole group, small group, individually), working on developing and implementing the skills needed in order to become more independent readers.
- Writing Assignments: Writing assignments will take various forms, from journal/formula writing to short stories, persuasive essays, research papers and personal narratives. Students will focus on specific skills for each assignment breaking the writing process into smaller lessons and then trying to implement such skills into their own work.
- Vocabulary and Grammar: Students will study grammar and vocabulary in the context of what they are reading in class. Students will also partake in grammar mini lessons to help reinforce basic grammatical rules.
- Writing Portfolio: Each student will complete a writing portfolio, which will be developed over the course of the entire school year. Students will revisit works in the portfolio throughout the school year, making corrections to their work as they learn more about the writing process. At the end of the year, students will present their portfolios to the rest of the class.
- Homework: Students will be given homework Monday-Thursday. All homework will be an extension of the skill or lesson we worked on in class.
Units of Study:
Unit 1: Characters with Character Unit 2: Solving Problems
Unit 3: Change Unit 4: Picture This
Unit 5: Literature Reflects Life
